A review of evidence published in the journal Gut suggests high consumption of red meat and alcohol appears to increase risk of colorectal cancer, while foods rich in magnesium, folate and fiber have been linked to decreased risk. Cancer risk in general may also be reduced through lifestyle changes, including maintaining a healthy body weight, limiting intake of processed foods and sugar-sweetened drinks, and staying active, according to the American Institute for Cancer Research.
