New data published in the journal PLOS One found that patients aged 40 and older whose levels of vitamin D were sufficient were 51.5% less likely to die of COVID-19. The study followed 235 people hospitalized with COVID-19, and it found patients with vitamin D levels of at least 30 nanograms per milliliter also had lower risk of losing consciousness and having low blood oxygen levels.
